Casio G-Shock Men In Ice White Riseman GW-9200PJ-7JF

From the old to the new, and you don’t get any newer than the ’09 G-Shock GW-9200PJ-7JF or to you and me the ‘Men in Ice White Riseman’. I Bought the Black version from Tiktox and couldn’t resist getting this Ice White version from Japan being the only place it has been released.

It looks stunning in bright white and is certainly not short of features, It has ‘Multi band 6’ Atomic capabilities as well as an Altimeter, Barometer, Thermometer and it’s Solar Powered as well. It doesn’t end there though, as well as the Famous G-Shock toughness it’s also water Resistant to 200 meters.

Phew!, What a Watch! And if you think all those features are gonna have a drain on your battery well, It’s got some neat power saving features built in that limit some of the more advanced functions (Even the Backlight) to make sure you can always tell the time. After all…..It is a Watch right?. I wear mine most day’s now and Definitely my favourite of 2009 so far.

Suunto Core Light Green ..................................As easy as ABC!

Now I’ve always been  a huge fan of Suunto, I think they make some fantastic Watches. My first was a Military Negative display Vector which I will cover later on. Since then I bought an Altimax and this Light Green Core. I pondered over the all Black Core but when I saw the Light green up close it looked fantastic.

This A,B,C Altimeter, Barometer and Compass Watch sits very proudly on your wrist and I like the way the rubber strap wraps tightly around the case with no obvious signs of Lugs. I’ve always relied on Suunto for all outdoor activities over the years and I’ve never been let down once.  Suunto are the top choice of the worlds Military and for anyone who Climbs, Treks and Cycles the Core is an invaluable tool.

That leads me nicely into an area of which interests me, at the moment I’m part of a team developing a website to raise awareness (And Money) to remember and commemorate the sacrifice and service of soldiers past and present and to raise money for worthy causes. We intend to raise well in excess of £65,000 and were doing this by Cycling from Normandy to Berlin. We will no doubt have plenty ABC watches with us, I know I’ll certainly have mine. If you’ve got a minute please visit the site which is in development and say hello or even better lend your support. The link is below

Coca Cola with Lemon?................. Yes please!

Here's an 80's Watch made by Swatch for Coca Cola. I just love the colours on this one and there are some very interesting dial designs out there. Cars, Beach scenes, Birds but the Coke can to me sums it all up. You will find that Swatch used alot of the designs for their own Standard Gents models in the 80's, none were ever officially released but they do exist as prototypes, I dont know the exact numbers but in my time i've seen quite a few.

As you can see the major differences are centred around the extra protruding parts of the case and around the crown. The band although still standard 17mm in size does not have the usual standard lug fitting. Interesting though if you look at the back of the case you will see familiar Swatch case markings and battery terminal. A lovely bright Watch.

1983 Casio G-Shock DW-5000.......................A real tough team project!

The 1983 DW-5000, the first G-Shock ever produced was devised by Kikuo Ibe an employee of Casio, and developed by the 'Project Team Tough' trio in the later part of 1981. A year of throwing watches out of Toilet windows and hey presto! the most important plastic Watch ever was devised.

Eight prototypes were produced and all had the words 'Project Team Tough' on the lower left of the display, rightly so these are the rarest models to exist. Much later on in 2001 the DW-5000-1JF was released as a special edition and completely sold out in less than 70 hours. As you can see although they kept the screw back it use the 1545 Module, the original DW-5000 uses the 240 Module and it has a DW-5600E type Bezel fitted.

You can see the differences in the writing on the display, 'Water Resist 20Bar' replaces 'Water Resist 200M'. This was a highly anticipated reissue and Casio did a very nice job indeed.

Breakdance anyone?

A perfect place to start is without doubt with the 1985 Swatch GO001 Breakdance. This bright Orange Watch has an important part to play in Swatches colourful turn of direction in '85. A common misconception was that this was designed by New York artist Keith Haring but infact it was designed by Scmidt/Muller who took inspiration from a poster designed by Keith for a New York Breakdancing competition.

Swatch produced only 9999 of these Watches and they were sold in the United States only. This must have had an important part in the fact that a short while later Keith Haring produced his now very famous four models which we will talk about at a later date.

Fortunately the example above is in very nice condition but as hardened Swatch collectors know, for some strange reason the early 80's 'Orange' coloured cases are prone to becoming very brittle. The battery cover generally does more bad than good on this model and you will find on a large majority that the battery lips deteriorate easily.

With the demand for untouched and flawlessly perfect examples being sky high by world-wide collectors, the emphasis is more on the condition than functionality so look after them if you have one. Definately one of my all time favourites and just for the hardened collectors ......heres a nice variant to drool over.

Welcome to Plastic-Watch

First of all Hello!, and let me introduce myself......... My names Michael and i'm fanatical about early 1980's Plastic watches. Whether it be Swatch or G-Shock, Tag Heuer or Fortis if it's 80's and mostly plastic then i'm a fan.

I have been collecting Watches since 1991 and have a sizable collection, the older i get the more i have found myself steering towards 'rarer' models and i have a huge...and i mean HUGE! passion for early 80's G-Shocks.

I have decided to try and put together something online where fellow Plastic fanatics can come together and share the addiction. I have no (And i mean zero) web building experience at all, so this will probably be a slow process, but i have no doubt we'll get there.

Anyway...for now goodbye....Watch this space!.
